This course takes you one step beyond training young horses. It focuses on horses with fears and phobias. These are horses which exhibit severe, learned fears and problematic behaviors that are associated with a particular object or task that the horse is supposed to perform. These could be problems that arise, for example, during trailer loading, aggression, etc. Today we are able to analyze and, most importantly, solve behavioral problems of all kinds. The point isn’t to host a show — like the popular horse whisperer era approach — where trial-and-error tactics are supposed to bring about magical results in a short period of time. Instead, you’ll learn to assume a horse-centric point of view and apply sound scientific findings to quickly and professionally find the best approach to solving the problem. Through the application of classical and effective theories of learning, you’ll be able to retrain behaviors in horses. You’ll be able to work at a highly skilled level, create training plans, coach yourself and help an entire stable team make operational changes, should these be necessary.
Our phobia course is only open to those who have taken and passed our Training Course I exam and have continued on in our program towards more advanced qualifications.
